Security arrangements are tight on all borders of Delhi regarding the farmers’ protest. However, due to the closure of the Singhu and Tikri borders, people are facing difficulties in commuting. Meanwhile, there is relief on the Gazipur-Noida routes.
Delhi Traffic Advisory Today: After talks with the government failed on the issue of minimum support price, farmers have started moving towards Delhi. However, barricades have been placed on roads entering Delhi at various places to prevent the farmers from entering.
Traffic Update on Delhi Borders
There is a jam at the Gazipur border of Delhi. Traffic on the road from Delhi to Ghaziabad during office hours has come to a standstill, causing a traffic jam. The jam at the Gazipur border is due to barricading on the road related to the farmers’ protest on February 16. On the other hand, farmers in Punjab have sat on the railway tracks. The farmers’ protest has once again troubled the passengers of the trains. Trains coming to Delhi are being affected by the farmers’ sit-in on the railway tracks in Punjab.
It may take farmers one to two days to reach Delhi, but they have already faced difficulties before reaching Delhi. Traffic has been diverted due to barricading at the UP Gate, causing heavy inconvenience to people. The Delhi Traffic Police, issuing an advisory, said that there would be inconvenience to travelers on NH-44 at the Singhu border. Therefore, choose alternate routes and options.
Singhu and Tikri borders have increased inconvenience.
Farmers are about 200 kilometers away from the national capital as of Wednesday evening, but Delhi residents have been struggling with traffic jams for three days. There is a 4 to 6-kilometer-long jam on major routes every day, leaving people stuck in traffic for hours. Wednesday was also tough for the Tikri and Singhu borders, leading to jams in nearby areas and roads throughout the day. However, some barricades were removed at the Gazipur and Noida’s Chilla border, opening up two lanes for Delhi-Uttar Pradesh commuters, and providing some relief. Meanwhile, the situation was normal at the Badarpur and Ghitorani borders.
The police commissioner personally assessed the borders.
Delhi Police has deployed 200 companies (each comprising more than 70 personnel) at the Singhu, Tikri, and Gazipur borders. The Home Ministry has allocated 82 companies to the police. Additionally, 150 companies of police personnel working in police offices have been deployed for security. Local police are also on high alert. In New Delhi alone, 1260 police personnel from the outer force have been deployed. New Delhi District Police Commissioner Devesh Kumar Mahla stated that over 1000 police personnel are keeping a watch in the district. Security has been tightened at VIP locations, including the residences of the Home Minister, Prime Minister, and other VVIP places. In addition, pickets and special patrols are being conducted at important locations.
